Rancho loma, texas
On the drive to Talpa, we stopped for a quick lunch at Wendy’s. Being a fast-food burger joint, Alexandra’s did not have high hopes, but it was actually not bad at all—the burgers and fries were good and even the toy in Theodor’s kid’s meal was of decent quality. Satisfied and satiated, we once again ran to the car (it was still very windy), and since Theodor decided to take an incredibly long nap, we managed to drive almost the whole way to our destination.
As we arrived at the ranch the wind had settled down and the sun was peeking out of the somewhat cloudy sky, so we were planning for an afternoon swim in the pool. But as we knocked on the door of the main house, no one answered. We looked around and said hi to the dogs and chicken running around, knocked on some more doors and still no one seemed to be home. After writing to the owners, we got a message that we were in room 5. We found the room and the door was open. Actually, the doors to all of the rooms were open. Unsure if anyone was going to come check on us, we decided it would be okay to take a swim in the pool. Just as we were ready to take a dip, a car came and we were checked in - learning that we were the only guests that night, so we had the whole place to ourselves. Also, the fridge we had passed on the way to the room filled with refreshments and food was all for us as well. And we could stay as long as we wanted the following day. Happy we didn’t need to think about dinner, we hurried in the pool and then sat on the deck in front of our room eating the delicious Strata that had been prepared, while Theodor ran around naked chasing the chicken. Total relaxation.
The room itself was a complete contrast to the style of the main house which was quite classic and rustic. Very modern and minimal, so minimal actually that the bathroom was part of the room itself. Including the toilet, with only a curtain for some privacy. Luckily, by some strange coincident we only needed the bathroom while the others were outside.
Although we easily could have stayed at the ranch relaxing for a week, We needed to leave for San Antonio - as the conference Alexander was going to had begun. So we enjoyed our breakfast, packed our bags, said bye to the chicken and drove off.
